Dr Margaret Carswell developed the Composite model in 1996 as part of her Masters of Education (Religious Education) on Discipleship in the Gospel of Mark. This was published as Teaching Scripture: The Gospel of Mark. The model has continued to be modified and developed as dioceses in Australia and London have incorporated it into their teaching.
Dr Carswell completed her PhD in 2006 on the presentation of Scripture in Religious Education, finding a number of significant problems with both the way passages are cited and adapted. Since then she has continued to explore the place of Scripture in RE, more recently presenting nationally and internationally on the problems and how they may be resolved.
Dr Carswell is currently working as consultant to schools and systems in the UK and Australia. She is currently trialling a new model for RE this year, inspired by the principle of letting Scripture speak for itself.
Her passions - besides Scripture- centre on life on a small farm in Ballarat, complete with a menagerie of horses, cows, sheep, goats and chickens and her two grandchildren: Eli and Lily.
